USF-UFF Chapter Meeting

Time & Place. The Chapter Meeting was held at 12 noon on USF St. Petersburg in the USC Coral Room.

Attendance. Twelve UFF members, including six members of the Council, and one guest.

Minutes. 7 September 2018 minutes approved.

President’s Report.

• Discussion of USF’s progress towards consolidation.

New Business.

• Required Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Training. Discussion.
• Florida Education Association. There seem to be two motions for the Assembly regarding gun violence, and there is a concern that they might be duplicative.
  • Motion made and seconded that
    
    Whereas the USF Chapter of the UFF presented a motion to the UFF Senate to be presented to the FEA DEA regarding federal support for developing the science of gun violence and
    
    
    Whereas the UFF Senate did approve this motion as presented and subsequently the requisite twenty-five signatures for this motion as presented were collected, and
    
    Whereas another motion has been made regarding legislation encouraging the use of armed volunteers on schools,
    
    Be it resolved that the Chapter regards these motions as not duplicative and different in many aspects and therefore the Chapter urges that these two motions be presented to the FEA DA separately..
    
    Motion passed.

Reports.

• Membership. We will seek a table at the USFSP Benefits fair. We will set up meetings and socials.
• Government Relations. Discussion.
• Collective Bargaining. We will compose a bargaining survey.
• Grievances. There are a lot of outstanding grievances.
• Tenure and Promotion. There will be a workshop on November 30.
• Treasury. We are solvent.

USF-UFF Chapter Meeting

Time & Place. The Chapter Meeting was held at 12 noon on USF Tampa in EDU 261.

Attendance. Thirteen UFF members, including nine members of the Council.

President’s Report.

• Discussion of USF’s progress towards consolidation.

New Business.

• UFF will be holding meetings for various faculty in the Sabal Room. There will be a Halloween party in the Sabal Room.
• The chapter meeting at USF St. Petersburg this semester shall be on September 21 in the USC Coral room. The chapter meeting at USF Sarasota / Manatee will be on November 2, location TBD.

Reports.

• Communications. Discussion of the website and the newsletter. The website manager and mailtool were upgraded for security reasons, but now the issues are functionality and esthetics.
• Grievances. Discussion of outstanding grievances.
• Treasury. We are solvent.

Time & Place. The Chapter Meeting was held at 12 noon at CDB Restaurant at 5104 E. Fowler.

Attendance. Thirteen UFF members, including nine members of the Council, and one guest.

Minutes. Minutes of the 30 June meeting approved.

President’s Report.

• Discussion of USF’s progress towards consolidation.
• Discussion of upcoming UFF Senate meeting.
• UFF shall propose a program for faculty success to Academic Affairs.

New Business.

• Report on a meeting by a task force concerning tuition for family members of USF employees.
• The chapter meeting at USF St. Petersburg this semester shall be on September 21.
• Discussion of holding a Tenure & Promotion workshop later this semester.
• Discussion of a Government Relations Committee.

Reports.

• Grievances. Discussion of outstanding grievances.

  • Motion made and seconded to approve the budget. Budget approved.
  • Membership. The travel scholarship program shall continue this fall.
    • Motion made and seconded that the Chapter shall offer six $ 500 travel scholarships to UFF members who have not received scholarships during the previous three cycles. Scholarships shall be for substantial professional activity, and recipients shall acknowledge partial support by UFF and write up a short description of the work for the UFF USF Biweekly. All UFF members except for members of the Executive Committee are eligible. Applicants shall submit a 200-word proposal to the Secretary by November 27, and the recipients shall be selected by lot on the November 30 chapter meeting. Motion passed.

President’s Report.

• Discussion of consolidation.

New Business.

• The chapter meetings this fall will be on August 24, September 7 & 21, October 5 & 19, November 2 & 16 & 30. The September 7 meeting will be at USF St. Petersburg.

Reports.

• Membership. The chapter made plans for the fall recruitment campaign.
  • We will meet with colleges and departments.
  • Should we pay members to recruit members?
  • Should we give rebates to new members?
  • We will publicize benefits of membership.
  • The September 7 chapter meeting will be on USF St. Petersburg, and this should be publicized.
  • The USFSP Faculty Senate meets on Aug. 17, and we should have an event there. This should be publicized.
  • MOtion made and seconded to authorize the Membership Chair to make reservations of Marshall Student Center rooms for recruiting sessions. Motion approved.
• Publicity. Website repairs continue.
• Treasury. We are solvent.

• This fall, we will meet on USF Tampa except for one meeting at each of the other campuses.
• UFF will hold T & P workshops this fall.
• Discussion of the situation in the College of Nursing.

• Membership. UFF members are signing up to go to a Rowdies tailgate and game on July 28. Discussion of fall campaign.
• Grievances. Discussion of outstanding grievances.

• Collective Bargaining. The CBA says we should start by October.

• Motion made and seconded to make a public document request for faculty and supervisory evaluations of
  deans, and ancillary material. Motion approved.

• Cecil Greek will represent UFF on the committee on course for spouses and children.
• Adrienne Berarducci will represent UFF on the committee for student evaluations of faculty.
• The July 13 chapter meeting will be a planning session for fall.

• Membership. New Faculty orientation on USF Tampa will be on August 7.

USF-UFF Chapter Meeting

Time & Place. The Chapter Meeting was held at 12 noon at CDB Restaurant in Temple Terrace.

Attendance. Thirteen UFF members, including nine members of the Council, and three guests.

Minutes. April 20 minutes approved.

President’s Report.

• UFF will select some members to represent faculty in a committee concerning the consolidation of the USF system. Discussion of accreditation.
• UFF will select some members to represent faculty in a committee reviewing student evaluations.

Old Business.

• Discussion of USF hiring graduate assistants to teach summer courses.

New Business.

• Politics. The new political education committee needs to get launched.
• Membership. The membership committee needs to get launched.
• Scholarship. In the 1990s, UFF USF Chapter President Cook set up a UFF scholarship. UFF will explore the possibility of reviving it. President Shapiro will appoint an ad hoc committee to explore the possibility.

Reports.

• Grievances. A number of Step One decisions have just been handed down.
• Membership. We will explore the possibility of having breakfasts or lunches before departmental faculty meetings.
  • Motion made and seconded that UFF will attend New Faculty Orientation in August, and that the chapter shall provide requisite resources. Motion approved.
• Collective Bargaining. Discussion of bargaining priorities.

Attendance. Ten UFF members, including six members of the Council, and one guest.

President’s Report. Discussion of situation at USFSP.

New Business.

• Ad hoc university committees. UFF will select one member for each of two ad hoc university committees. Joshua Rayman will serve on a committee reviewing student surveys. A member will be selected for a committee reviewing benefits.

Reports.

• Communications. The website, including the mail administrator, is suffering technical problems, and requires extensive repairs.
  • Motion made and seconded <.i>to allocate $ 1,000 to $ 2,000 for repairs. Motion passed.
• Treasury. We are solvent.

USF-UFF Chapter MeetingTime & Place. The Chapter Meeting was held at 12 noon on USF Tampa in the MSC Sabal Room, and it was a social.

Attendance. Fifteen UFF members, including nine members of the Council, and five guests.

Travel Scholarships. Five recipients of travel scholarships were selected, along with three alternates:

• The five recipients were Rachel May, Jody McBrien, Jill McCracken, Debra Smith, and Milton Wendland.
• The three alternates were (in order) Marleah Kruzel, Judithanne Scourfield McLauchlan, and Ilene Berson.
